Off-tsók

“Tsók” meaning “clan” in Fujian dialect. In Chinese society, the clan is a group formed by blood and kinship ties, sharing a common ancestor. In my hometown of Fujian, clan values are deeply embedded in everyone’s life. However, with rapid modernization and industrialization, traditional social structures and values have been shaken and challenged. This rapid transformation has forced two generations to confront the conflict between individualistic values and family-centered ideals.

By designing an interactive video installation, I aims to draw the audience’s attention to and provoke reflection on the underlying crises hidden within rapid modern development.

Off-tsók explores how compressed modernization weakens traditional family bonds and creates generational divides. AI, as both a symbol and product of this rapid shift, generates traditional visuals that are often imperfect or fragmented, reflecting the alienation and cultural disarray caused by modernization. By using AI to deconstruct and reconstruct these traditional elements, I aim to illustrate the erosion of tradition, cultural rifts, and resulting disconnection.
