Liminal

This project explores the ethical and social issues surrounding the legalization of euthanasia, with a focus on the complex power dynamics faced by young patients with mental illnesses in the decision-making process. The project draws on Ronald Dworkin’s three key concepts—autonomy, best interests, and sanctity—from Life’s Dominion as its theoretical foundation. It examines the potential impacts and challenges of euthanasia across multiple dimensions, including the individual, familial, medical, and societal levels, while revealing the subtle external influences on individual choices.

Through a multi-screen experimental video installation, the project reflects on how the legalization of euthanasia redefines societal ethical boundaries, particularly highlighting the struggles faced by young individuals. Try to provoke reflection on autonomy, moral ethics, and the power structures within medical systems. It also questions societal definitions of autonomy and its intricate manifestations within power dynamics.
